Most cycling shoes are pretty sharp, but they’re also decidedly sporty. As cycling becomes an increasingly popular mode of transportation, shoe manufacturers are offering up more products that don’t just do a good job in the pedaling department, but are comfortable-and good looking-enough to leave on long after the ride ends. The key is pairing a cycling-smart upper-breathable and durable-with a stiff but walkable sole that either has plenty of grip for platform pedals or includes recessed cleats so you’re not forced into the usual clickity-clack, toes-up penguin strut you perform in standard road shoes. Add a pop of streetwise style and you have a comfy commuter shoe that allows you to pedal anywhere and leave the spare shoes at home. Shoes with a two-bolt cleat in the sole can improve your pedaling efficiency. They allow you to pull up as well as push down on the pedal to maximize your riding motion. The act of clipping in and out by turning your foot rather than simply stepping off can take some getting used to, but once you are comfortable, riding will seem easier-and you might be a little faster. Off the bike, you’ll still have cleats underfoot, but the ones on the shoes in...

Optimizing the sorting and filling of returnable glass

Rothaus Brewery, a famous traditional brewer located high in Germany’s Black Forest, recently invested in two major projects: a new refillable glass bottle sortation system and a new glass bottle filling line. Gebo Cermex was largely responsible for the bottle sortation system, while KHS provided the 132-nozzle filler that anchors the new filling line. On both projects, maximum uptime and increased reliability were made possible thanks to the line engineering and conveying expertise of Gebo Cermex. Working closely with Rothaus engineers, Gebo Cermex was responsible for integrating 30 different machines from more than a dozen different suppliers. Gebo Cermex also installed stainless-steel-belt bottle conveyors and stainless-steel-belt crate conveyors that are essential to all of the depalletizing, un-crating, combining, accumulating, laning, sorting, re-crating, and re-palletizing that goes on. A little background on the German beer market helps make clear how important the new sortation technology was. Returnable glass bottles are still by far the dominant package format for beer in Germany. Once upon a time, brewers relied on a small number of standardized bottle styles, w...

Anyone who has ever had to travel with a small child knows this: it’s exhausting and

Anyone who has ever had to travel with a small child knows this: it’s exhausting and overwhelming. Many new parents will try to avoid traveling as long as possible in an attempt to avoid the hassle. So, to make this summer’s family travel less onerous, we went to the expert, Rebekah Otto, the Editor-in-Chief of Babylist for her top tips for traveling with a small, demanding yet adorably lovable human. 1. Skip the crib. Babies are heavy—or rather, their accouterments are. So don’t bring what you don’t have to.  “For sleeping arrangements, I try to skip bringing a bassinet or travel crib,” Otto said.. “On Airbnb, I filter by houses with cribs or high chairs. (It’s hidden in amenities.) This makes traveling with my eight-month-old and three-year-old much easier.” Searches can also be customized to suit families – and you can add “infants” to the guests to only show homes that are baby friendly. Or in “trip type”, set “For families.” Another home-share rental option according to Otto is Kid + Coe, but note the site’s availability is much more limited. 2. Proper planning makes all the difference between a great trip and an anx...

Adoption of FA-4 Engine Oils Has Been Slow, but Early Tests May Point to Future Acceptance

The American Petroleum Institute’s latest heavy-duty engine oil standards, designated CK-4 and FA-4, have been on the market for more than two years, but only one of these two new categories has seen significant adoption thus far. CK-4 lubricants, available in the popular viscosity ratings that have evolved over the years for heavy duty, have by and large replaced the previous CJ-4 formulation. But FA-4 engine oils, which are designed specifically to boost the efficiency of the latest generation of diesel engines and have limited backward compatibility, have been slower to gain acceptance from fleets. That may change, however, as the industry’s push toward greater fuel economy continues. As a grade, 10W-30 oils under the prior CJ-4 standard also were slow to catch on initially until engine approvals moved mainstream. But now many major fleets are reaping the fuel economy benefits of moving from 15W-40 to the lower viscosity 10W-30, and, with the added wear protection built into the latest CK-4 formulations, are seeing additional performance and durability, and in many cases extended oil drains. NFI, for one, is seeking to push the envelope on fuel economy by leapfrogging CK-4 an...

The Art Spirit Gallery has unveiled “Spring Folly,” a colorful collection of new works by Northwest

The Art Spirit Gallery has unveiled “Spring Folly,” a colorful collection of new works by Northwest artists. The exhibit features Coeur d’Alene oil painters Jeff Weir and Kathy Gale, mixed media artist Shelle Lindholm of Montana and sculptor Kelsey Bowen of Red Lodge, Mont. The show runs through June 9. Utilizing texture and rich color, Gale’s work leans toward impressionism while flirting with abstraction. The artist’s new body of work uncovers the beauty of the open, quiet vistas in Idaho, eastern Washington and Oregon. “For years I’ve been in awe of the sunsets, storms and open grassy tilled earth of the Pacific Northwest,” Gale said. “I’m thrilled to transform my photos and memories into paintings for this exhibition.” Gale holds a bachelor of arts degree from Gonzaga University. For many years she resided in the Seattle area, painting for individual and corporate clients. She has participated in various art events in the Inland Northwest and, with the help of local artist Teresa McHugh, started the Coeur d’Alene Artists Studio Tour. Contemporary Western oil painter Weir grew up on 34 acres in rural Athol where he fell in love with the outdoors. In his work, Wei...

DERICHEBOURG : Results of the first half of 2018-2019

The Board meeting of May 22, 2019, chaired by Mr. Daniel Derichebourg, approved the half-year financial statements at March 31, 2019. During the meeting, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer noted the soundness of the Group`s economic model and the robustness of its results, despite slowing economic growth and an environment beset by considerable uncertainties. In this context, which reflects a decline in financial performance by all players in the recycling industry, the Group has managed to limit the negative effects thanks to substantive work done on scaling its production facilities, continued attention to unit margins and the level of inventories, and to its dense territorial network, which ensures it has a regular supply, and makes it possible to monetize specialized facilities whose profitability is better than the average in the business. Revenue for the first half of the year amounted to €1.38 billion, a decrease by 5.7%. Revenue growth for the Multiservices business did not offset the decline in the Environmental Services business. Volumes of non-ferrous metals have been maintained, notably thanks to the increased strength of the second aluminum refining unit at Pr...
